Cheese curds and segways
We like to try something new each time we head to Door County and this year it was to ride a segway! L was too young, so she and I went into Fish Creek, sat in a local restaurant and ate some cheese curds while watching all the tourists pass by. We did a little shopping. Here L is in a $600 rabbit fur coat. After I snapped the picture, I saw the signs that said to ask for help when trying on jackets and, please, no photos. Yikes. We looked at each other, starting laughing and high-tailed it out of there!
Andy, B and E had a 5 p.m. reservation with Segway the Door to take a segway tour in Peninsula State Park. We had to leave the mini-golf place in a hurry - E didn't even get to claim her free game for getting a hold-in-one on the third hole - because we were running late. We got to the hardware store where they were to meet the guide and another couple and everyone was ready to go.
They had a 30-minute lesson to learn how to ride the segway, but said it was pretty easy once they got the hang of it. The guide was a retired biology teacher so he had lots of info for them about the park, which was nice. They said the segway's top speed, even going down hills, is 12.5 mph. B said it would be great to have one to ride to school. Fat chance!
With the training and tour, they were on the segways for two hours. At one point, the instructor was teaching B how to brake and E ran right into him. It knocked her off and she scraped her hand and knee. Everyone said they'd do it again! When I asked them what the best part was, E said, "My favorite part was running to B." To which B quickly replied, "That wasn't my favorite part." At least they both didn't fall off!
