Onto Charleston and home

One last look at the resort before we checked out this morning.

Our room number was on a fish. Bye, Disney! We're on our way to Charleston, about a two-hour drive.

These boiled peanuts were in a gas station/convenience store where we stopped for a bathroom break. We weren't brave enough to try them. They said you eat them with the shell on. No, thanks.

We had lunch at the Mellow Mushroom, a pizza chain we first tried back in 2014 in Kentucky when we took E on a spring break trip to look at colleges. Charleston City Market that had lots of vendors lining the aisle. I had planned to go the Confederate Museum above the market, but no one else wanted to go. It was among the many places I wanted to see but didn't go - a drive along the Ashley River to look at plantations, actually visiting at least one cotton plantation, touring some of the merchants' mansions in Charleston, seeing a few Confederate statues, Fort Sumter. Maybe I need to return with like-minded travelers?

It was still hot and humid but we walked to see this round UCC church ...

... and its cemetery. Unfortunately, the church was closed when we were there. We also walked to the dock and saw a huge Carnival cruise ship. We also saw an aircraft carrier on the river. We didn't realize how big and busy the Charleston port was.

We did drive by some mansions.

Since it was too hot and humid to walk around much (and we weren't going anywhere I was interested in) I suggested we head to the airport early and return the rented mini van. At least I got my first Sam Adams Oktoberfest beer.

The girls waiting for the flight.

B keeping watch over all the bags.

L taking video of the flight home.
