On her way

Andy, B, Mayu and I took L to O'Hare this morning for her trip to Japan. Her friend, T, slept over and rode along. L seemed a little nervous but she was excited as we got there around 9:30 a.m. when they had to be there by 10:30 a.m. This is her friend A who got there at the same time. At one point on the way to the airport they pulled up next to us at a stoplight.

A nice pose with Mayu ...

... and another friend, A.

L with sensei. She had just told sensei of last night's passport incident. Not amused. We were fortunate that B's host family is hosting a student and the boy agreed to take gifts to B's family - a box of Godiva chocolates and an Illini basketball for the boy. We also took a box of Godiva chocolates to Takako's family. Takako is in college but her family is hosting one of the OPRF students.

Nice picture with Dad.

But then she gave Mayu a goodbye hug. Mayu leaves the day before L returns so this was it for them.

And another hug.

She's a big mess now.

She turns to her brother for some comfort.

She gives a hug to her friend, T ...

... then goes back and give Mayu another hug. Tears were flowing. They promised to keep in touch. That was a tough goodbye.

We left as she was in line for security with her friends. Hope she has a great trip!
