Distillery & dinner

On this rainy and foggy Saturday, we drove to Plainfield to meet Julie and Kevin for a tour at Black Dog Distillery. They had gone on a distillery tour before and when a Groupon came up for this tour, Julie suggested we all go and see what it's like. Andy and I got lost on the way when our GPS led us to a road that no longer exists. Regardless, we found it in time for the 3 p.m. tour.

Our Groupon included the tour, a tasting of the spirits made there, and two cocktails. Today's cocktails were Pear Cider with Vanilla Vodka and Lavender Lemonade. Even if we paid the $10 per person price, which we didn't, it would still be a bargain.

The owner explains to Andy how the different liquors are made.

One of the two black dogs that were in the distillery. He's a very friendly miniature schnauzer.

Pouring and ...

... time for the tasting. A little strong for me.

Much better to have the vodka mixed in with something else. This is the lavender lemonade. It was good, but I preferred the Pear Cider and Vanilla Vodka drink we had before the tour.

Julie and Kevin read the bottle of Bloody Mary Mix they bought. Andy and I got a bottle of the vanilla vodka which he plans to use at Thanksgiving for his "signature cocktail."

Distillery decor.

After the tour, we stopped at the At Home store. I went to one with Cindy and Darla when I was down for the crop. It's a big store - with really big inflatables. No, we didn't buy this one.

And we met Allison in Lombard for dinner at Rock Bottom Brewery.
