When you get a text from your college kid at 8:30 p.m. asking if you're still awake (I go to bed early but not that early) you hope it's not bad news. Once I confirmed I was indeed still awake, L FaceTimed me last night and said fhe Rec Center at U of I was on fire. She could smell smoke in her apartment which isn't far away. She later learned it was a fire closer to the stadium, possibly the preactice facility.
She had quite a time getting back to her apartment with the large emergency response. She said students were already joking on line about wanting a football team that's on fire, but not literally. I imagine there will be a report on the news today.
