When our church remodeled the chapel a few years ago, they sold off most of the pews. Andy and I wanted one then, but they were 9-feet long and we had no idea where we would put it. They sold all but a few and recently decided to sell the rest. We said we'd be willing to take one if it was shorter. A church member said he knew "a guy" who could cut one down for us for $50. We said sure - make it no longer than 6 feet.
Today, the "guy," named Chips (seriously? Certainly fits for a wood-worker) dropped off our shortened pew. It fits perfectly on the back porch. We'll have to rearrange a few things and it needs a paint job. Our plan is to make a cushion for it and to hide shoes underneath it, maybe tack up a fabric curtain to hide the shoes. Chips said the pew is made from pine so we'll never have to worry about it warping. We thought it would give the kids to place to sit to take their shoes off, stash their backpacks, chat with their friends, etc. It does have some pretty detail work.
Muffles, though, lost his favorite perch as we set the old gray office chair out in the alley to the first taker.
Even before the chair was in the alley both cats were busy looking for their new hiding space under the pew.
