For months E has been wanting to make a cake with fondant. She found an easy recipe (powdered sugar, marshmallows and water) and made the fondant yesterday. After school today, she baked a double layer cake.
First she had to coat the cake with regular frosting so the fondant would stick.
Then she had to roll out the fondant. Look at her foot - you can see she's putting all 100 pounds of her weight into it.
I helped her lift the fondant to place it over the cake. Turns out, she rolled it way bigger than she needed, but that's all part of the learning process.
She trimmed off the excess and mixed leftover fondant with food coloring for her decorations.
Ta-da! And, finally, the beautiful finished product. She did really well for her first attempt.
