Halloween homework

Trick-or-treating wasn't all fun and games for B. As part of his accelerated math class, his teacher challenged the kids to sort their Halloween candy into at least five categories, put the data into an Excel sheet and create a graph for extra credit. B was up bright and early this morning to work on his assignment.

First, B created his categories: Chocolate, gum, candy with nuts, lollipops, plain Hershey bars, other candy and non-candy. He ended up with 166 pieces of Halloween candy - not bad for an hour or so of walking the neighborhood. He had 47 pieces of chocolate (28 percent); nine pieces of gum (6 percent); 21 pieces of candy with nuts (13 percent); 17 lollipops (10 percent); 12 Hershey bars (7 percent); 57 other (34 percent); and three non-candy (2 percent).

He turned the data into a colorful pie chart that he'll give to his teacher tomorrow.
