Alebriges at Cantigny

Andy had no plans to go golfing or go to the driving range Monday so I talked him into driving out to Wheaton to see the alebriges exhibit at Cantigny Park. An alebrije is an imaginary creature that possesses elements from different animals. They have about 48 of the sculptures on display of various sizes. They were created by six Mexican artists.
We walked around a lot but didn't see all 48.
Some were a little hidden. This one was in a tree.
Pretty neat.
The grounds were beautiful with so many flowers and plantings. We saw two different areas with chairs set up where they allow weddings.
We saw tanks that Andy remembers seeing from trips there when he was young with his dad. There were kids climbing on most of the tanks. There's a whole tank park.
And though it's usually closed on Mondays, they had the military museum open. The World Wars were really well done.
They even have a piece of the Berlin Wall.
This is a model of the entire estate. It's huge. Here Andy's pointing to the Dick Tracy sand trap on the 18th hole of Catigny's golf course.
The mansion was closed for renovations but it would be fun to see inside if they eventually give tours.
