I noticed this morning that our chrysalis had turned a dark color, but when no butterfly emerged by mid-morning I figured it wasn't going to happen today. L had the day off of school so we did a little shopping and when we came back, August was intently staring at the mantle. L turned around to see what he was looking at and there was a beautiful Monarch butterfly!
We gave it plenty of time to dry out its wings. It was fluttering around the living room for a bit but L was able to get it back on her finger. One of our FB friends said it's a girl and that it will fly to Mexico and lay eggs!
L was so excited! It was chilly and windy today and she was very concerned that setting her outside would kill her.
We set her on a milkweed pod where she's stayed for hours. Hopefully, she'll begin her trip to Mexico soon.
