The Heartwreckers

Andy and I went with Allison and Pat to Fitzgerald's last night to see The Heartwreckers, a Tom Petty tribute band.

They opened with my favorite Petty song, "Listen to Her Heart."

If it weren't for this blog, I'd have no idea Friday was our fourth time seeing The Heartwreckers. Even more interesting, we've seen them once a year since 2023. Last year, we met our friends, M and R, for the band's free concert in Scoville Park.

Meanwhile in Florida, L wanted to see how close she could get to this hawk perched at her apartment complex. According to google it's a Red-shouldered Hawk, known for its sit and prey behavoir, perched high while waiting for a snake, frog, lizard or mouse to eat.

She was surprised it let her get this close. She said it was cute. Not sure I'd describe it as cute - striking, perhaps.

Petty tribute band

Andy and I invited our friends, Matt and Renee, to the Park District's free concert last night. A Tom Petty tribute band, The Heartwreckers, performed for free at Scoville Park. We've seen them perform a couple of times before - once on our own and once with the family, both times at Fitzgerald's. This was the first time, though, that they substituted the lyric in "Listern to Her Heart" from "money and cocaine" to "money and cupcakes." Had to keep it family-friendly.

The park was packed! It was a beautiful night, a little on the cool side even, and by time the concert was over, I was chilly.

Renee was dressed appropriately. I was in shorts and a T-shirt. Brrrr. Should have at least grabbed a light jacket on my way out of the house.

And the boys. Andy was grabbing some snacks that Matt and Renee had beought along - crackers, cheese, lunch meats and snack mix.

They even brought cute napkins. They thought of everything!

Petty tribute

Andy and I, Julie and Kevin, Allison and Pat all went to Fitzgerald's last night to hear The Heartwreckers, a Tom Petty tribute band Andy and I saw there last year.

Once the little breeze we had died down it got kind of warm.

The band. Last year they played my favorite, "Listen to Her Heart," first. This time it was their third song.

Julie and Kevin met us there, but Allison and Pat came over before the show and we had a little cookout with Italian sausages. It gave me a chance to make my baked beans.

Julie's selfie got us all in the picture and looking at the camera. That's an achievement.

The Heartwreckers

Andy was up crazy early to make donuts Saturday but he was awake enough to see The Heartwreckers, a Tom Petty tribute band, at Fitzgerald's that afternoon. They opened with "Listen to Her Heart" which might be my top Petty song - probably because you rarely hear it on the radio.

We were sitting in the shade but not under the tent so these trees kept dropping little green things. We had to cover our beers with our phones. The couple sitting next to us covered their drinks with their phones too.

The little green things are in my hair, on my shirt, on my shorts.

The played for two hours and performed all of Petty's hits. I think there were two songs I didn't recognize. Sitting behind a pole was a little annoying but we needed to be in the shade.

The outside bar was closed off for a wedding reception. Near the end of the show these two women (on the left) came over from the reception to dance.
