Open House Chicago and B

Stop No. 1 -- The one building on my list of Open House Chicago must-see was the Edgewater Beach Apartments and it was our first stop of the day.
The lobby's chandelier, mirrors and table are original to this 1928 building.
This pool!
Close-up of the clock.
An old promotional poster.
This picture had to be taken.
Stop No. 2 -- St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church.
I'm not sure if they do this every time they enter the sanctuary, but it's a nice idea - light a candle and prepare for worship.
So ornate.
Interesting architectural features inside.
Beautiful windows.
Stop No. 3 -- Church of the Atonement Episcopal
I had to take this picture for Allison - the ropes to ring the church bells. She's a ringer.
The sanctuary.
Interesting position for the organ pipes. Notice the statues of the various saints (?).
Stop No. 4 -- Edgewater History Museum. Interesting that it's in an old fire house, just like OPRF Museum ...
and it has a fire pole, just like we do. Theirs doesn't appear to be accessible from the top to slide down like ours can be.
They had a lot of information on the neighborhood and Edgewater Beach Hotel and Apartments, but there was a lot of reading. I was most fascinated with this display of women's items, hair pins, etc., in the ladies' room.
Stop No. 5 -- Chicago Filmmakers This wasn't on my list, but we were in the neighborhood. Interestingly, it's also in a former fire house.
There wasn't much to see inside ...
But the outside was neat. It's a Chicago landmark building. You can see the C.F.D. (for Chicago Fire Department) above the door. The terra cotta roof is original to the 1928 building. It was a working fire house until 2008.
Stop No. 6 -- We picked B up at his apartment and brought him with us to the Riviera Theatre.
It's undergoing renovation, and definitely needs some work, but it's a busy venue.
They gave us a huge packet of information and listed many of the artists who have performed there (Tom Petty is in this picture). They were setting up for a show while we were touring.
Fancy seats. Row H, of course.
Lunchtime -- Just a block or so from the Riviera, we had lunch at Fat Cat. Pretty building.
My boys ... er, men.
Nice Halloween decorations, great service and good food. (Continuing the day in another post. This is getting long!)
