Andy and I went to Allison's church last night for her first night of weekly open mahjong play.
My mahjong on the first game.
My win earned me a little duck so I chose a purple one.
I made cookies to contribute to the snack table. The runner is one of two I found for her at Savers today - $5 each. I thought they were kimono sashes (being sold in the table linens area) and some more research proved me right.
A closer look and that one has a 55,000 yen price tag on it. That's $345 in dollars. Apparently they're silk and intended to be worn by brides. According to google, "This is a Nishijin-ori Fukoron Obi featuring a certificate of authenticity for pure silk woven in Kyoto." Our exchange student Mayu was from Kyoto. E translated this ...
as "heart thread throughout the pattern" and " group of cranes in the middle of Luo Gaiyun." The first part makes sense, not sure about the second part.
This is the second one. Surely the most valuable items I've ever found at a thrift store. They fit in nicely with the Aisan mahjong theme.
